Your First Visit

We're so glad you've decided to join us!

Feel the abundant welcome of North Community Church the moment you enter the forest green doors at the front of the Church.

What to expect

When you visit North Community Church, you will be greeted just inside the front doors and shown the way into the sanctuary where our Sunday morning services are held.

Once in the sanctuary, you will be given an “order of worship” bulletin that will outline the day’s service. In addition one of our greeters will offer to answer any questions you may have about the church or the denomination with which it is affiliated – the United Church of Christ.

Our Sunday Worship, which generally lasts about an hour, begins with the pastor welcoming everyone who is in attendance along with some general announcements.

You are invited to share your contact information using the pew card so we can reach out to you after your visit. There is no obligation to do so.

Communion

The first Sunday of every month, is Communion Sunday. All are welcome to participate, we believe this is God’s table, no membership required.

Visiting with Children

North Community is an intergenerational congregation and kids participate fully in communion and worship while also having their own space for support and belonging.

Most worship services begin with a children’s sermon, after which children leave the sanctuary to participate in Kids Programs. Please note, kids’ programs take place across the Street at NCC Parish House. Children are supervised by our kids’ activities coordinator as they leave the Sanctuary and cross the street.

Children are always welcome to remain in the sanctuary with their parents if so desired. Don’t worry if your youngsters are rambunctious. The sound of children is the sign of a healthy church.

Fellowship

Please join us immediately following Worship for fellowship and refreshments. It’s a wonderful time to meet Rev. Andrew Ponder Williams, ask questions, and get to know members of the church. Fellowship, also known as coffee hour, is open to all and takes place at Gilmore Hall (behind the Sanctuary) or across the street at the NCC Parish House.

Parking

Ample parking is available on the left side of the Church and across the street at the NCC Parish House.

Limited parking handicapped parking is available along the cemetery (right side) of the Church and there is a small parking area behind the Church used mainly for meetings at Gilmore Hall and the Church Office.

Finding your way to the Sanctuary

Parishioners may use one of our two entrances to Sunday Morning Worship in the Sanctuary.

The Front Doors
When you enter through the front doors, you’ll find a small foyer and an entrance to the back of the Sanctuary.  Peruse the welcoming table with flyers and name badges for Church members and feel welcomed by our greeters who can help answer any questions you may have.

The Side Entrance
The side entrance (located on the right of the church and accessed along the neighboring cemetery) opens into Gilmore Hall, a parlor behind the Sanctuary with a gathering area, a long table and a small kitchen.  You may enter here during Worship if you so choose, and you will arrive in the front of the Sanctuary.

The Side Entrance is handicap accessible.

From the side entrance into Gilmore Hall you may easily access the Church offices located upstairs at the back of the Church. Head to the right and up the stairs.

Kids Program

It is important to note that our kids’ program takes place across the street at the NCC Parish House.  If you plan to have children attend, it may help to arrive a few minutes early if your child will benefit from exploring the church school environment.

If you have questions about our childcare and kids programs, please reach out to Kristy Kirby, Kids’ Activities Coordinator.

Youth

Youth meetings are independent of Sunday Worship and generally take place every other Sunday from 9:30am to 11:30am at the NCC Parish House. If you have questions about the NCC Youth Programs please reach out to youth leader Steve Shipman.

Restrooms

Restrooms are located in the far left corner of Gilmore Hall as you enter from the Sanctuary (far right corner when you enter Gilmore Hall from the side entrance.
